FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STAMFORD, CT., February 7, 2019 – The City of Stamford announced that it has entered into an agreement with Somerville, NJ based company, Paylock to use their patented, self-release immobilization solution.  With PayLock’s Smart Booting technology, the City can begin upgrading its scofflaw enforcement program in an effort to recover more unpaid parking tickets.

“The Transportation, Traffic and Parking Bureau uses License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to quickly and efficiently identify vehicles owing multiple unpaid parking tickets,” said James travers, The Transportation Bureau Chief.  “Beginning on 2/7/2019, a brightly colored, self-releasing SmartBoot will be installed on vehicles with three or more delinquent parking tickets.”

With this new system, motorists can pay outstanding violations 24-hours a day, seven days a week by calling a multi-lingual, live-operator customer Help Center or by going to www.STM.MyBootInfo.com from any mobile device. Once all fines and fees are paid, the motorist is given a six-digit code to release the SmartBoot themselves.  In most cases, the process takes less than 10 minutes, helping people get back on the road quickly.

Under the previous system, vehicles with three or more parking violations were towed. Going forward, an identified vehicle will have a SmartBoot immobilization device attached by a Stamford Traffic Violation officer. The SmartBoot weighs approximately 16 pounds and has an electronic keypad that may be unlocked by the motorist after payment is made.

“The process is quick and easy,” said Justin Kennedy, CEO of PayLock. “A motorist calls our Help Center, makes a payment and receives a code to remove the boot on their own.”

Once removed, the motorist returns the boot to Stamford City Hall. If a motorist is not able to remove the boot on their own, an officer will be dispatched to assist.

PayLock introduced self-release booting in 2004. Since then, the company has partnered with over 20 municipalities across the United States on parking enforcement solutions. To date, the company has processed more than one million self-release booting transactions, helping cities like Stamford recover badly-needed vehicle debt.
